Take a gander at one of Threadless‘ new t-shirt designs:

Yes, that is a young boy building a robot friend out of a water tower. It makes me think of the movie Iron Giant.
If you’re not familliar with Threadless or what it’s all about I shall explain. They print t-shirts with user submitted designs on them. The designs are made by registered members of the site and voted on by members on a scale of 1-5. There is a seven day voting period in which the designer should promote his or her design and members will get a chance to vote on it. If the design receives a high score at the end of the one week period your design will go to the Threadless staff and they will be the ones who ultimately decide if the design gets to become a t-shirt. If a design is printed the designer gets lots of moneys and stuff.
Anyway, Threadless is having a sale right now. All shirts are $10 but HURRY because they might (and probably will) run out of your size!
Mike Mignola’s comic book/graphic novel, The Amazing Screw-on Head has been turned into an animated series to air on the Sci-Fi network. Mignola is best known as the author/artist of the Hellboy comics.
The Amazing Screw-On Head is about…well, a screw-on head - sort of like a robot with interchangeable parts. He was hired by President Lincoln to fight crime, and when I say “crime” I mean malicious villains. It sounds odd but the comic/show is overall a comedy, so the oddity compliments the humor.
You can watch the pilot episode of The Amazing Screw-on Head at the Sci-Fi Network’s site.
Japan makes the best stuff. Take Casshern: The Robot Hunter, for example. Look at the title of this movie, it has robotic goodness baked right in! At one point they even speak of Roboticists. Who would have thought? I wonder what kind of training Roboticists would have to go through, how much school?
The movie takes place during a civil war. There is a family: the father is a scientist, the son gets drafted, and mother is blind. Anyway the father is hired by the government to work on a project to create new soldiers by using the body parts of the deceased. Wouldn’t you know it, apparently reanimating the dead isn’t a smart idea, don’t know why.
You’ll have to watch the movie to find out what happens next, just know there are robots and amazing visuals. The director of the movie worked on music videos before this film and the style has carried over in this feature length film.
